Personal GAME Plan

According to the International Society for Technology in Education, there are five standards and indicators that teachers need to follow in order to become proficient in incorporating technology in the classroom. The two indicators I feel most comfortable with are:
(1) Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity:
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments, and
(4) Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility:
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.

As a teacher, I am comfortable engaging students in examining real-world issues and solving problems using technology and other resources, as well as teaching safe and ethical use of technology, including copyright laws and appropriate documentation of resources.

I would like to become more proficient in engaging professional growth and leadership. Teachers need to be able to develop and evaluate learning experiences and assessments by incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in the classroom. As a new teacher, I am still trying to configure the most appropriate lesson plans that will produce the greatest benefits for my students’ learning. To achieve this goal, I will have to research and create a variety of activities to ensure that all learning needs are met in my classroom, and reflect on these activities to alter lessons where improvements can be made for the benefit of all students.

Another proficiency I would like to stregthen would be to Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. Teachers need to exhibit knowledge of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Technology is constantly changing and developing, and in order to incorporate new digital tools in the classroom teachers must stay up-to-date on current tools and how to use them. It is important to research these tools and learn how to use them proficiently in order to be able to teach others how to use and incorporate them in the learning community.

By focusing on improving my weaknesses in the standards and proficiencies of technology in the classroom, I will create an environment that will be more beneficial to my students and ensure that they will learn the necessary tools for the 21st century.
